I have a few books I read at a time so I can match a mood and place.
My current list is
The Various Flavours of Coffee- a dandy who becomes a 'coffee nose'
Auntie Mame-an irreverent escapade
Anything Goes- a biography of the roaring twenties
Widow Cliquot- the woman who created the champagne empire
The Key to Living the Law of Attraction
My methods for squeezing reading into a busy schedule incorporate multi skilling for maximum time value and minimum guilt about the act. I read on the treadmill, in the bath, outside, drinking coffee, on the tram and train, and whenever I am bound to be waiting for something or someone. I have a specific handbag able to carry said book!
I also advocate a dedicated time for immersing oneself in the pages of another's mind to really get the full escapism value. Are we not each deserving of our own time and space to do with what we will?
I am also a reader who not only jumps into the world but also takes a piece back out with me. Why read about others adventures and lives and then put it down to be left with sighs of jealousy that our lives are not the same?
Make your life the same. Of course it depends what you might be reading about but I mostly focus on inspiration and adventure and information specific to my life choices. If I find myself thinking 'how wonderful to live/be/think like that" I stop and think about the ways I could make my life a bit more like what I am reading about and clearly longing for. Adopt speech patterns and modes of dress and ways of living that your heroes and heroines have that you find so attractive-as long as its not harming others why not? I know there are cynics who say we should live in the real world but what is that exactly? Reality is subjective and some people live in a very dull and sad version of it. I would prefer color and the eccentricity of experimentation and limitless joy. I am disturbed by the recent campaigns to 'harden up'. Against what and for what end?
To not feel?
To not care?
To shut out all and be completely self involved?
I dont understand this sentiment at all. BUT I digress
Reading
Do you do enough? Should you do more? Can you see the value? I pity the person who ignorantly thinks books are a waste of time and I encourage others to investigate the joys of reading further. We each only have a limited time on the planet and I hate to see how many braincells are devoted to absorbing advertisements and repetitive daily function. Make time
