Voguing to your inner soundtrack

Have you ever had a song or piece of music on loop in your head that has made you laugh even the face of grim life events? Brazil ( the soundtrack from Terry Gilliam's film of the same name) is the one that mercilessly pops into my head when things are going badly. It is very distracting and makes me behave inappropriately. Sort of funny when I think on it now but when you are in serious trouble its just not right. When I consider this absurdity it is probably the perfect thing to balance the situation and keep things in perspective. Life can still be a surreal comedy even in its dark moments.

Life appropriate inner soundtracks.

Lately I keep waking up with "Age of Aquarius"(from Hair), "Change your heart"-by the Korgis and more often "What a swell party this is"- the version of the Cole Porter by Deborah Harry and Iggy Pop. I suspect this is to do with my obsession with all information to do with the current planetary alignments. Other days and times it will be different. When I am feeling at peace and very happy its "Begin the Beguine" and when all is dark and dreary I have opera's greatest laments collection beginning with Madame Butterfly.

I wonder do others experience this? I dont mean just matching a feeling with a song. I mean it plays in your head in the background on continual loop, sometimes driving you to distraction. I may be confessing to some abnormality but I actually find it kind of comforting because my inner soundtrack is usually very telling of my situation at the time regardless of the face I may have to put on.

Today has seen me immersed in Madame Butterfly (I am feeling a little melancholy and dwelling on loss) and I have revisited the beautiful modern version by Malcolm McLaren. I had forgotten how well it captures the story and was astounded at the timelessness and simplicity of the film clip. Less heartbreaking and more triumphant than the operatic style, it actually captured my mood perfectly but kept it light. It was wonderful to go back and remember a great artist as well.(note however the 80's will never be my favorite music genre/era to revisit unless it is this alternative type)  Which brings me to the voguing. I never knew about the "Deep in Vogue" he did -here is the link on youtube taken from RAGE-

This came before Madonna's and captures the style perfectly. As history now shows, he was always willing to embrace the latest up and coming trends in music and dance and was usually right about its potential.

I was musing the other day about the idea of setting life to your inner soundtrack and broadcasting for others to hear. How incredible to be able to have interaction with people this way. Straight away you would be able to know who had the same tastes, ideas, and feelings as yourself and where they were at in that moment. I am sure many would be surprised by what music plays in the soul of others.

My average day soundtrack might follow along these lines- When running late =Mission Impossible or The incredibles, perfuming = Mahler's 5th( in fact anything uplifting and soaring from the classics) enjoying with my partner = "At Last" -Etta James, joining friends for a night out= Groove Armada anything or depending on the friends some 90's dance, classic lounge, or the Duke, and working out = Rap. Its a rich and diverse palette I know but as a creatively driven person I guess it should be.

Does anyone else want to venture what they might be listening to inside their head? I would love to know.

Cheers
